Activate, pause, and end a campaign

The campaign lifecycle, from scheduled to ended, and what each state means.

What you'll learn

Every campaign moves through a small set of states. This page explains what each state means and how to move between them.

The states

  • Scheduled. Created but the start date hasn't arrived. No questions go out yet.
  • Active. Sending daily questions to the group, on schedule.
  • Paused. Temporarily stopped. No questions go out. The campaign keeps its place in the rotation and resumes where it left off.
  • Ended. Finished. No more questions send. The dashboard stays available for review.
  • Archived. Hidden from the main list. The dashboard is still available.

How to pause

Open the campaign and click Pause. Sends stop immediately. Pause as long as you need.

When you're ready, click Resume. The next question lands on the next scheduled send time.

Use pause for short interruptions: a holiday, a company-wide event, a sensitive week where you don't want to add to the noise.

How to end early

If you want to stop a campaign before its end date, open it and click End campaign. The campaign moves straight to Ended. You can't undo this, but the dashboard stays available so you can review what you collected.

How a campaign ends on its own

If you set an end date, the campaign auto-ends after the last scheduled send on that date. Campaigns without an end date keep running until you end them.

Common questions

  • Does pausing skip those days from the rotation? Yes. The question rotation picks up where it left off.
  • Can I change the end date instead of ending early? Yes. Open the campaign and edit the end date. That's usually the better choice if you might come back to it.
  • Will my team know I paused or ended it? They'll just stop getting questions. We don't notify them.
